  • Be Bold; Watch for Your Next Opportunity, Advises Top Businesswoman

  • At WCA's annual Leadership Apex Award Dinner on November 9, KATHERINE FARLEY, Senior Managing Director of Tishman Speyer and one of New York City's "Top Ten Most Powerful Women" according to Crain's New York, gave some great advice:

Katherine Farley addresses the sold-out crowd.

    1. Think Big. It pays to analyze the trends and be bold. Being bold means being willing to take risks.

    2. Seize the Opportunity. We live in a flat world where economic realities are fluid. So whether you choose to invest abroad in emerging markets or right here in your own backyard by modernizing, streamlining, and repurposing, know that the future holds tremendous promise.

    3. Be Patient. "Understand that everything takes time; you've got to be in it for the long haul," Farley advised.

    4. Progress Depends on Political Will. You can't go at it alone. As Farley demonstrated, in China, once the government decides on a course of action, development occurs at breakneck speed. So, in the U.S., if the public sector strongly supports the private sector with intelligent planning, then drives economnic development by speeding the approval process, we will be able to accomplish much.

For over fifteen years, Farley has spearheaded business development in China, Brazil, and India for Tishman, expanding their global real estate. In addition to her work at Tishman Speyer, she is Chair of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City.
