  • An Insider's Update on the New York State Senate

  • Our lawmakers in Albany have some mighty big issues on their plates these days—pension reform, fracking, gun control, a minimum wage increase, school aid…the list goes on. And while the debates are endlessly fascinating.....

...so are the behind-the-scenes machinations—especially in the NY State Senate, where the Republicans cut a deal with five breakaway Democrats in order to keep some semblance of a majority.

Meanwhile, State Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins, the Leader of the Senate Democratic Conference, will be one to watch.  Stewart-Cousins, a Democrat representing Yonkers, Greenburgh, Scarsdale, and parts of White Plains and New Rochelle, is the first woman to be named Leader of any conference in the nation. Undoubtedly, she’ll have some interesting maneuvering to do to with the renegade Democrats as she tries to move her agenda forward.

And, what about policies that encourage economic development in Westchester (and the rest of the state)? We might just find out from her on March 15 at the WCA’s “Political Friday” breakfast, our popular series that gives you access, information, and a chance to ask questions of those who serve. So, if you’re a political junkie or just plain interested in news you can use, join us! Sign up at events@westchester.org
