    Under a new agreement, The Bronx-based Montefiore Health System will acquire Sound Shore Health System in lower Westchester County.
    this year, subject to Bankruptcy Court and regulatory approval, will enable Montefiore to continue, and enhance, the provision of care at Sound Shore and Mount Vernon Hospitals as well as at the Schaffer Extended Care Center.

    Bill Mooney, president of the Westchester County Association released the following statement today:

    "The healthcare landscape is changing and will continue to change. Healthcare is a $10 billion industry regionally and is Westchester's largest employer. We applaud the efforts to keep the facilities of the Sound Shore Health System open as both a major healthcare provider and as a major economic engine. The Westchester County Association has assembled the region's brightest minds in healthcare and business and launched its Healthcare Consortium this spring to keep our region ahead of the rapidly-changing healthcare curve."
