WCA’s BLUEPRINT Partners With Higher Education and Business Community for 2nd Annual Career and Internship Fair
In business, you’re only as good as the people who work for you. So, companies across the county are lining up to tap into the local talent pool who will be attending Recruit Westchester 2013—a fantastic opportunity for small and large businesses to connect with potential employees to fill current and future staff and internship positions...
Over 3,000 applicants turned out for the career fair in 2012.
This year’s fair, to be held Oct.18 with a special VIP hour for alumni from 1 p.m. - 2 p.m. and open to students and alumni from 2 p.m. - 5 p.m., at the Hilton Westchester in Rye Brook, follows the highly successful inaugural career fair held in 2012, which attracted over 100 employers and 3,000 students and alumni from 14 colleges and universities. Simply put, Recruit Westchester offers companies an opportunity to connect with a highly educated potential workforce at a single, cost-effective event.
Last year’s fair was an outgrowth of a collaborative agreement, engineered by the WCA, which brought together leaders of the region’s colleges and universities to participate in the BLUEPRINT for Westchester initiative to ramp up the county’s efforts to compete globally.
So far, it’s working. Navy Djonivic, a partner at M Group Consulting, said Recruit Westchester turned out to be very beneficial for their financial services firm.
“We hired Steven Cardinali as an entry-level accountant and we couldn’t be happier with his performance. Our HR reps will be participating again this month in hopes of lighting striking twice!” said Djonivic.
As the economy rebounds, events like Recruit Westchester ensure that businesses are poised to capitalize on the intellectual capital in the region, according to Marissa Brett, executive director of the BLUEPRINT for Westchester.
“The Westchester economy is growing and it’s critical for established and entrepreneurial companies to have access to emerging talent,” said Brett. “We’re thrilled that the WCA has a role in making this happen, and thank the many employers who have already registered, demonstrating their commitment to Westchester’s future.”
Over 100 employers have already signed up, including nonprofit organizations, financial services firms, medical centers, media groups, travel and tourism enterprises and much, much more.
Participating higher education institutions are Berkeley College, College of New Rochelle, Fordham University (Westchester), Iona College, Long Island University Hudson, Manhattanville College, Mercy College, Monroe College, New York Medical College, Pace University, Purchase College SUNY, Sarah Lawrence College, St. Thomas Aquinas College, The College of Westchester and Westchester Community College.
