Expert's Corner
Rick Rakow, Rakow Commercial
Realty Group, Inc.
The next time your firm considers
relocating, the biggest mistake you can
make is to inspect the right space with
the wrong broker. That means you have to
make sure the broker is representing you
– not the landlord. Some tenants, when
thinking about moving, drive around and
call the phone numbers found on signs in
front of all the buildings that appeal
to them. Not only does this method waste
a lot of the tenant’s time, causing them
to consider buildings that may not have
appropriate available space, it also
puts the tenant in a terrible
disadvantage. Keep in mind – the person
answering the phone when you make those
calls was hired by the landlord to make
the best deal possible for the landlord
– not you. If you engage a firm to
represent your interests, they will
create the leverage necessary to ensure
you the best possible results.

E-CONNECTIONS Testimonial
Caroline Hay, General Manager,
Director of Sales Abigail Kirsch
Culinary Productions
Caroline Hay will tell you from personal
experience that knowing and
understanding the issues that impact the
business community have been invaluable
to her career in the hospitality
business, including her current position
as General Manager and Director of Sales
for Abigail Kirsch Culinary Productions.
“By demonstrating to a prospective
client that you have a genuine interest
in their business and an insight into
the topics of the day, there’s no
question that it helps us to book new
catering events at our Abigail Kirsch
venues. The reward is lasting
relationships that convert into new or
repeat business,” she said. For Ms. Hay,
her 10-year membership in The
Westchester County Association has
increased her knowledge of what’s
happening in the business community.
The 20-year catering veteran began her
career with the Hilton Hotel chain where
she worked on some very notable events
including serving as catering manager
for the inaugural dinner at the
Washington Hilton for President Clinton
in 1993. In 1997, she moved to
Westchester to continue her Hilton
career, as the Director of Catering with
the Tarrytown Hilton. She joined Abigail
Kirsch two years ago.
A resident of Tarrytown, Ms. Hay
attended Fairleigh Dickinson University
where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in
Business majoring in Hotel and
Restaurant Management.
