By
Bob Dembner, Managing Director CostMarc Consulting Group
Under
pressure to increase revenues and grow the bottom line, management often
overlooks overhead costs like office supplies and related items, printing
and stationery, overnight delivery, telecommunications and copiers. The truth
is management just does not have the time or resources to regularly review
expenses and reduce these costs. Expense reduction often just falls “under
the radar.” Moreover, management might lack the necessary knowledge
of the market place to make such cost cutting initiatives effective. The
supplier possesses this knowledge putting the buyer, the company, at a disadvantage.
That “best deal” might in fact be anything but.

E-CONNECTIONS
Testimonial
As
Senior Vice President and Community Banking Division Manager for Mahopac National Bank
(A Tomkins Community Bank), Kathleen Rooney has a keen interest in connecting with small
businesses. That’s because Mahopac National Bank— which has been a community
bank in the lower Hudson region since 1927 and comprises 7 branches including one in Mount
Kisco—specializes in meeting the needs of small business owners.
Last
year, shortly after Ms. Rooney learned about the WCA’s new membership
category, she thought it would make a great deal of sense if Mahopac National
Bank sponsored CONNECTIONS’ first networking event.
“We liked the idea that the WCA was committed to helping small business
owners and entrepreneurs succeed with unique programs and services like networking
and Lunch & Learn. These individuals represent the largest and fastest
growing sector of the economy and they are an important part of our customer
base and our community.”
The
sponsorship proved very successful, “We made several connections from
that event, some of whom became customers of our bank and others who are
likely to do so later on,” Ms. Rooney explained. “We also became
customers of two of the business owners we met that evening. The experience
convinced us that CONNECTIONS and the entire WCA organization will provide
us with a great platform to market our small business banking services.”
In
addition, Ms. Rooney noted that supporting WCA’s CONNECTIONS was in
keeping with Mahopac National Bank’s philosophy of taking an active
role in community activities. As part of that commitment, Ms. Rooney joined
the recently formed CONNECTIONS Advisory Board to help guide future development
of the organization. “It’s very exciting to be helping to take
CONNECTIONS to the next level.”
