EFFICIENCIES
AT YONKERS WASTEWATER PLANT SAVE MONEY,
PROTECT ENVIRONMENT
Westchester County is expected to save about
$225,000 annually as the result of a recently completed project to make
the Yonkers Joint Wastewater Treatment Facility more energy efficient.
"Not only does this project save our taxpayers money, but it is important
to the environment," said County Executive Andy Spano of the collaborative
project between the county and the New York Power Authority. "The plant
will use less energy as a result of better equipment technology that
allows for less run time per day and the use of high efficiency motors. It
is part of our overall effort to save tax dollars and reduce the county
government's carbon footprint." Read

Brave 12 year old
makes a difference!
Jayne Gershfeld is 12 years old and a
sixth grader at Fox
Lane Middle School in Bedford, New
York. She wants to raise money for epilepsy
awareness and program funding. She was diagnosed with epilepsy in November
2005 after she fell in the shower. It was really scary for her and her
family. What was even scarier was that in the months (and years) that
followed, the doctors could not find the proper medication to prevent her
from having seizures. Either she was allergic to the medications or they
just didn't work. Even though it's been almost 3 years since she was
diagnosed, she still has frequent seizures. Her friends and family accept
that epilepsy is part of who she is. She hopes you will, too. She dances,
she swims, and she laughs - a lot - epilepsy will not stop her! Read
