THE ACA REPEAL NEEDS A DOCTOR
Most people are surprised when we say “Be careful what you wish for” as it relates to the repeal of the ACA, also known as Obamacare. I would say Congress should not repeal it. Coming from a businessman, that may seem surprising. So why am I being so cautious? I’m thinking of Westchester.
When the Board of Legislators approved the 99-year lease for the Westchester BioScience & Technology Center — also known as the “North 60” project —many here applauded this important milestone in moving the $1.2 billion project forward. The gloves were off at the WCA’s annual Breakfast with the County Executive when Westchester County Executive Rob Astorio took on what he described as the “fake news coming out of Albany.” But all was not contentious; the Smart Growth panel that followed Astorino’s State-of-the-County address, projected an optimistic picture of growth for Westchester in 2017. Here are the highlights:

The panel, will be moderated by Bill Cuddy, CBRE, with panelists Moses Gates, Regional Plan Association; Joan McDonald, WCA Strategic Advisor and former head of NYS' Department of Transportation and former Economic Development Director of the State of Connecticut; and Seth Mandelbaum, McCullough, Goldberger & Staudt.

BLAIR LEVIN, A FORMER OFFICIAL IN THE CLINTON AND OBAMA ADMINISTRATIONS, TO JOIN WCA’S “GIGABIT WESTCHESTER” INITIATIVE AS A “VOLUNTARY COUNSELOR”
Blair Levin, Executive Director of Gig.U: The Next Generation Network Innovation Project and a non-resident Senior Fellow of the Brookings Institution, has joined the WCA’s Blueprint for Smart Growth team as Voluntary Counselor to the WCA’s Gigabit Broadband initiative, which was announced on October 6th at a press conference. Levin served in the first Obama administration as Executive Director of the National Broadband Plan and in the Clinton administration as Chief of Staff to the Chairman of the FCC, where from 2009-2010, Levin oversaw the development of the FCC’s National Broadband Plan.
