(White Plains, NY… April 17, 2017) ….The Westchester County Association (WCA) announced today its Community Partnership with the Westchester Biotech Project (WBP), a consortium dedicated to stimulating knowledge-sharing and collaboration among researchers, engineers, and data scientists from companies and institutions across the region. Ongoing programs will launch this spring, leading to the Innovation in Research Symposium on October 26 at New York Medical College.

The Westchester Biotech Project reflects ongoing discussions between WCA member Michael Welling, Head of the Life Sciences Group at Meridian Risk Management, and Joanne Gere of BioPharma Research Initiatives. BioInc@New York Medical College is also a Community Partner.

“With Westchester now a national hub of healthcare and biotech, and the WCA leading the effort to promote economic development in the county, this new partnership will allow us to leverage our resources and create opportunities for those who drive scientific and medical breakthroughs,” says William M. Mooney, Jr., President and CEO of the Westchester County Association.

The WCA has long led efforts to raise awareness of Westchester and the region as a national hub of innovation in healthcare and life sciences with events such as the annual Health Tech conference and Women in Technology awards. As a $15 billion economic engine, the life sciences sector is the main driver of growth, employment and innovation in the region. The sector is a key focus of the WCA’s Blueprint for Smart Growth, which aims to attract innovation and entrepreneurial activity.

“The WCA has been a terrific Community Partner in building momentum for the Westchester Biotech Project,” says Gere. “By emphasizing the impact and relevance of life science discovery and development, together we honor the contributions of the very innovators who activate tomorrow’s medical breakthroughs.”
