Description

Increasing building efficiency requires more than installing the latest technology. Having knowledgeable staff able to diagnose and solve energy-related issues is essential for successful implementation of energy efficiency upgrades. NYSERDA offers various Clean Energy Workforce Development programs that assist building owners, property managers, and businesses train new and existing employees to work towards decreasing carbon emissions and increasing business profitability.

How it Works

The following programs are available to assist Building Owners and Property Managers:

  • For inspiration regarding training projects funded through NYSERDA’s Workforce and Development and Training Programs refer to their Example Training Projects.

The following programs are available to assist Businesses hire and train new employees:

  • On-the-Job Training for Energy Efficiency & Clean Technology: Matches qualified employment candidates with businesses, reducing financial risks of hiring and training new employees by providing up to 75% reimbursement of a qualifying new hire’s wages for the first 16-24 weeks of employment and assisting with the development of training plans.
  • New York State Clean Energy Internships: If your business offers clean energy related internship opportunities, NYSERDA will pre-qualify prospective interns and cover up to 90% of wages of new employees.
  • Climate Justice Fellowships: Year-long, full-time fellowships, for individuals from historically underserved communities. NYSERDA provides funding for salaries and professional development so that fellows are able to work within businesses and organizations that advance climate justice and clean energy priorities in their respective communities.
  • To advance equity and inclusion NYSERDA provides guidance and support for clean energy businesses in Hiring Disadvantaged Community Populations.
  • NYSERDA provides funding for business partnerships with training providers to develop and offer Energy Efficiency & Clean Energy Technology Training opportunities that work towards participation in New York’s clean energy economy.
  • Cooperative Advertising and Training for Clean Energy Partners: Provides funding to manufacturers and distributors of cold climate air source heat pumps and ground source heat pumps to support sales, design, and/or installation training.
  • Directory of Free Online Clean Energy Training: Lists no cost clean energy training opportunities available online according to category, training provider, and skill level.
  • Expand your Clean Energy Offerings: Opportunities and benefits to diversifying business models with clean energy products and service offerings.
  • Funding for Contractors and Installers: Support to help hire new employees, train current employees, and diversify your business model with clean energy technologies and services.

  • Connect with Partners: Facilitates connections between training providers and organizations interested in collaborative training programs and workforce development.
